115 Scholarships Awarded on June 5, 2016

The Foundation recognized the achievements of 115 local high school students at the awards program held on June 5th at the Genesee Valley Central School. Denis Dahlgren, Executive Director of the Allegany County Area Foundation presented the awards.  A total of $209,200.00 was awarded this year.  Patricia Oliver, Scholarship Coordinator, distributed letters of recognition to scholarship winners. Each applicant wrote an essay about their most influential educator, and each of the influential educators selected by our recipients were also recognized at our awards program.

An independent committee of volunteers selects the recipients through a blind selection process.   To make their selections they consider: activities and leadership contributions, work experience, educational and career objectives, unusual circumstances, scholastic performance, and aptitude and applicant appraisal.  Each of our scholarships may also have other criteria to be considered.

Our Scholarship Awards Program has a threefold purpose. The first being to honor and encourage the new award recipients. The second to thank parents and influential educators for their dedication and hard work on behalf of the students. The third purpose is to tell the story of the work of the Foundation. Over the past 32 years many donations small and large are sent in to support funds and scholarships. This year marks the 33rd year of the Foundation. We are fortunate to have accumulated over eight million dollars in assets. These funds provide a legacy for all time and ensure the Foundation's place in the lore of Allegany County.

Thank you to all donors, parents, teachers and students for making this year exceptional.

We serve primarily the students in Allegany County in New York State.
